When you let a professional cleaner into your home for the first time, they're already taking inventory before they've put down their bucket. Here's what we notice in the first 60 seconds — and what it tells us about how to do the best job for you.
1. The smell
Before we look at anything, we smell it. Pet odors, old cooking, mildew in the bathroom, dust in the air vents — they all tell us where the work needs to focus. Don't worry, we're not judging. Most homes smell like something, and a good clean knocks the underlying odors down without masking them with chemical fragrances.
What to do: if a particular room has been bothering you, mention it when you book. We'll spend extra time on that area.
2. High-traffic floor patterns
The path from the front door to the kitchen, from the bedroom to the bathroom — they wear differently than the rest of the floor. A glance at the carpet or hardwood tells us where the dirt actually lives in your home, and where vacuuming + mopping needs the most attention.
What to do: consider a deep clean every 3–4 months even if you have us standard-clean weekly. The high-traffic areas need a periodic reset that a regular clean won't fully fix.
3. The "clutter line"
Every home has one — the height at which surfaces stop being purposefully arranged and start being where stuff lands. Mail on the kitchen counter, makeup on the bathroom vanity, kids' homework on the dining table. We can clean around clutter, but we can't clean through it.
What to do: a 5-minute pre-cleaning sweep of the spots where stuff piles up will dramatically improve what we can do. We'll never move papers, mail, or personal items unless you tell us we can.
4. Bathroom corners and grout lines
Most homes have one bathroom that gets the brunt of daily use, and the corners where wall meets floor (and where tile meets grout) tell the whole story. Soap scum buildup, hard-water deposits, mildew at the caulk line — these need different products and more time than a routine wipe-down.
What to do: mention if your home is on a well or has hard water. We use different products and techniques for those situations and the result is dramatically better.
5. Pet hair (even if you don't think you have a pet hair problem)
Pet hair gets everywhere. Couch cushions, baseboards, the corners under the dining table, the air return vents, the underside of bar stools. Even households that vacuum daily have hidden pet hair we'll find within minutes.
What to do: let us know if you have pets so we can bring the right tools — a HEPA vacuum, lint rollers, and microfiber cloths designed for hair pickup. It's not just about appearance; pet hair on HVAC return vents reduces airflow and increases utility bills.
The bottom line: the more you tell us about how your home actually gets used, the better job we can do. When you submit a quote on our estimate page, use the notes field to share anything that would help us focus where it matters most.
